The Kōtuku, or white heron, is found in Australia, the South Pacific and Asia. It’s long, elegant white feathers have been prized by both Maori and Europeans for their ornamental qualities. Kōtuku populations are now small with limited geography in New Zealand. The white heron is associated with purity, grace and rarity.
This white heron flight feather has been crafted from a piece of salvaged native miro timber and painted lightly in white acrylic. The subtle contours and subdued hues of the carving embodies the elegance of the Kōtuku.
Carving measures 60 × 9 × 2cm and is fitted with a tri-ring for easy hanging indoors. Not recommended for display in full sun or near heat. Use a soft cloth to dust when necessary.
